คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษที่ใช้กับ พุทธศาสนา

เรื่องที่เป็นความรู้ หากจะรู้ไว้ย่อมดีกว่าไม่รู้ ศาสนาไม่ใช่เรื่องไกลตัวแต่อย่างใด ในประเทศไทยเรามีศาสนสถานอยู่
มากมายให้เข้าถึง คนไทยต่างเติบโตท่ามกลางพุทธศาสนา แต่คำสั่งสอนของพระพุทธองค์ มีน้อยคนนักที่จะเข้าถึง

พระพุทธศาสนา เริ่มเข้ามาดินแดนสุวรรณภูมิ (ในปัจจุบันคือ ไทย พม่า ศรีลังกา ญวน กัมพูชา ลาว และมาเลเซีย)
เมื่อราวปี พ.ศ. 236 ซึ่งมี พระสมณทูต เผยแผ่คำสอนในดินแดนต่าง ๆ โดยการอุปถัมภ์ของ “พระเจ้าอโศกมหาราช”

และเมื่อใดก็ดี เวลาถูกชาวต่างชาติถามเป็นภาษาอังกฤษว่า What is your religion? ก็คือ คุณนับถือศาสนาอะไร?
พุทธศาสนิกชนอย่างเรา ๆ ควรตอบให้เขาเข้าใจว่า I’m a Buddhist. ซึ่งแปลได้ใจความว่า ฉันนับถือศาสนาพุทธ

เจ้าอาวาส = The abbot
สามเณร = Novice

ศีล 5 = Five Precept
